The Next Generation of Bluetooth is known as the Bluetooth 4.0, this low energy technology expected in market by the end of Q2 of 2010. Bluetooth 4.0 will focus on low-energy technology, which will allow for the creation of sensor-type devices that run off a button cell battery.
The new specification will also utilize both classic high-speed Bluetooth technology, which may be combined or used separately depending on the application. Per a Bluetooth press release, range is also increased in the new specification.
Integration of low-energy technology into the Bluetooth specification is expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2010, with consumer devices supporting the specification likely to appear by the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011.
